What you'll do

A leading AI research lab is building AI-powered prior authorization workflows, and it wants pharmacy technicians to check the medication side. That makes this one of the few AI evaluation listings where the day-to-day knowledge of a PA desk or specialty pharmacy is the main qualification.

The work:

  • Answering medication questions using patient context, source materials and labelling guidelines
  • Reviewing AI-generated responses for clinical accuracy, safety, clarity, completeness and evidence support
  • Correcting weak responses, with structured annotations and written feedback
  • Escalating cases with insufficient evidence, conflicting guidance, unclear clinical context or safety concerns
  • Applying project rubrics consistently and joining calibration and feedback sessions

Representative topics named in the ad: medication history, PA requirements, indications, dosing, contraindications, drug interactions, supporting documentation and pharmacy workflows.

The ad lists "clear identification and escalation of safety-critical or ambiguous cases" as a success measure, so knowing when not to answer is part of the job, which suits technicians used to routing questions to a pharmacist.

Who fits

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or equivalent technician experience
  • Hands-on with medications, prescriptions, pharmacy operations and prior authorization workflows
  • Solid grasp of medication safety, interactions and best practice
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with structured annotation guidelines
  • 30–40 hours a week during the project

Preferred: prior authorization or specialty pharmacy, medication access programs, Epic, Cerner or other EHRs, clinical QA, AI evaluation or healthcare annotation, and 340B or medication assistance programs.

What it pays

$35 per hour, flat. At 30–40 hours that is $1,050–1,400 a week, close to a full-time technician wage and competitive with many retail pharmacy roles, remote. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, as an independent contractor.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Near full-time hours, fully remote, for pharmacy technician experience
  • CPhT or equivalent experience accepted
  • PA and specialty pharmacy experience are directly valued
  • Clear success criteria published up front

Less good:

  • 30–40 hours a week rules out doing this beside a full-time job
  • Project-based, with no stated duration; contractor status means no benefits
  • Measured on throughput and agreement with quality standards
  • US only; H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported
  • Small cohort so far: Mercor showed 2 hires this month when we checked
