Skills
  • medical coding
  • icd-10
  • cpt
  • cpc certification
  • evaluation & management
  • data annotation

What you'll do

This is coding as annotation. You read medical records and assign ICD-10 and CPT codes from the documentation, apply Evaluation and Management leveling under the official guidelines, and in doing so build and validate the coded datasets an AI model trains on.

Two parts go beyond straight coding. You work with the project team to clarify requirements and resolve ambiguities in clinical documentation, and you give feedback on coding guidelines and edge cases, which is where your notes shape how the model handles the hard calls rather than the routine ones.

Who fits

  • An active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential, stated as required even though it sits under preferred qualifications
  • A thorough understanding of ICD-10, CPT and E&M leveling guidelines
  • Experience across varied clinical documentation types
  • Clear written and verbal communication and close attention to detail
  • Access to current official ICD-10 and CPT code books and the E&M guidelines

That last requirement is practical and easy to miss: you are expected to bring your own current references. Familiarity with annotation tools or data projects is a nice-to-have. No prior AI experience is needed.

No minimum years of experience are stated, which makes this the accessible entry point among micro1's coding listings.

What it pays

$25–40/hour, micro1's published figure. That is in line with remote production coding rates. For comparison, micro1's Medical Auditor listing pays $30–40 but asks for a decade of experience and audit leadership, so a newer CPC gets proportionally more value here. No compensation structure, weekly hours or duration is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No minimum years stated; an active CPC is the gate
  • Thirty openings, flagged high demand
  • Guideline and edge-case feedback makes it more than production coding

Less good:

  • You need your own current code books
  • A modest ceiling at $40
  • No hours, duration or pay structure published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
  • Posted two months ago; check it is still open
