What you'll do

Despite the bioinformatics title, the listing's only required skill is medicinal chemistry, and nearly every task points at drug discovery. You curate, annotate and validate datasets on molecules and their biological activity, evaluate findings drawn from biological, chemical and clinical sources, and check AI-generated outputs for scientific accuracy and reliability.

The written side matters. Each assessment ends in detailed feedback and concrete recommendations for how the model should reason differently, and the ad also asks for input on experimental design and data interpretation. Expect work that reads like peer review of a computational chemistry section, applied to a model's answers rather than a manuscript.

Who fits

  • An advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in bioinformatics, computational biology, medicinal chemistry or a related field
  • Working knowledge of structure-activity relationships and drug design principles
  • Experience handling large omics or cheminformatics datasets
  • Familiarity with the usual tooling: Python, R, RDKit, KNIME and the public databases around them
  • Clear scientific writing
  • Research experience spanning biology, chemistry and data science; remote multidisciplinary work is a plus

No prior AI experience is required.

What it pays

$90–120/hour, micro1's published band. That is a relatively tight spread, and it matches micro1's separate Computational Biology Expert listing exactly. No pay structure, hours or project duration are stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A narrow band, so the floor is close to the ceiling
  • 30 openings
  • Suits drug-discovery scientists whose skills straddle chemistry and computation
  • No AI background needed

Less good:

  • The title says bioinformatics but the content is medicinal chemistry; genomics-only profiles may not fit
  • No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
  • The customer is not named

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal about two months before we read it on 24 September 2026. micro1 runs a close sibling, Computational Biology Expert, on the same band and the same single required skill; that one leans more toward writing problem sets and case studies, this one toward dataset curation. No country restriction is stated. Payment schedule and visa terms are not published on the ad. See micro1.
