What you'll do

Psychiatry in Cantonese-speaking settings has its own texture: stigma that keeps patients away until symptoms are severe, distress often described through the body before the mind, and families who expect a say in treatment. A model trained mainly on English-language psychiatry will misread those cases. This role exists to give it the Cantonese clinical picture.

Per the ad, you develop and evaluate complex psychiatric case studies with realistic, culturally specific scenarios; carry out assessments and add expert annotations that reflect Cantonese psychiatric practice; and write precise analyses in both Cantonese and English. You also review sensitive case material with confidentiality and ethics in mind, help design frameworks for passing psychiatric information accurately between the two languages, and give feedback on how AI systems evaluate mental health content. The customer is not named.

Who fits

micro1 lists these as preferred qualifications, but the title makes medical training the core of it:

  • A medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent), a completed psychiatry residency and a valid medical licence
  • Native Cantonese and advanced English, written and spoken
  • Extensive experience of psychiatric assessment, treatment planning and case documentation in Cantonese clinical settings
  • Cultural sensitivity and ethical reasoning in complex mental health cases
  • A background writing teaching materials or case studies for education or research
  • Interdisciplinary project experience, ideally in technology, research or digital health
  • Familiarity with both Western and Cantonese psychiatric frameworks

No AI background is needed, and the ad does not say which jurisdiction's licence counts. Because it asks for experience within Cantonese clinical settings, psychiatrists who have practised in Hong Kong, Macau or Guangdong match the wording most directly; a Cantonese speaker trained and practising only in English may be a weaker fit.

How it compares

The sister Bilingual Cantonese Psychologist (PhD) listing, posted the same day, pays the same $100–200/hour and leans towards evaluating AI output, while this one asks for a medical degree and centres on building and annotating cases. The same template runs in other languages, including Vietnamese, Russian and Japanese.

What it pays

$100–200/hour, micro1's published band. The ad does not explain placement within it and states no pay structure, weekly hours or project length.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 70 openings
  • Values Cantonese clinical experience specifically, not generic psychiatry
  • Case-writing work suits psychiatrists who already teach residents or students
  • Remote, with no country restriction on the ad

Less good:

  • The same band as the PhD psychologist listing, despite the longer medical training
  • A 2x spread with no published basis for placement
  • No hours, duration, pay structure or start date stated
  • Detailed psychiatric case material can be heavy going
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, and tax is yours to handle
