What you'll do

Marking, with AI as the student. You read several AI-generated responses to the same prompt, compare them for clarity, tone, helpfulness and how well they followed the instructions, score each against the project rubric, and write a rationale that justifies the score.

The ad singles out two failure modes worth training your eye on: responses that are fluent but unsupported, and responses that are comprehensive but no use to the audience they were written for. Anyone who has marked essays will recognise both. You also catch factual errors and internal contradictions, keep careful records of your decisions, and work asynchronously with reviewers on a digital review platform.

The ad describes it as flexible enough to fit alongside other professional commitments.

Who fits

  • First-language or fully equivalent written English
  • A completed degree from an accredited institution in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
  • Experience marking, grading or examining written work against set criteria or rubrics
  • A background in assessment design, instructional design, peer review, thesis supervision or academic writing support
  • Objective, well-argued judgments and attention to detail

The ad files all of these under preferred qualifications, but expect the English and degree conditions to be screened for. Model evaluation, RLHF or annotation experience is an asset, not a requirement. Note that the degree condition is about where you studied, not where you live; the ad sets no residence rule.

What it pays

$90–140/hour, micro1's published band. That is high for rubric grading and on par with micro1's Technical Writer / Editor listing. No pay mechanism, weekly hours or project length is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Teaching and examining experience is the qualification; no AI background needed
  • Strong rate for work educators already do
  • 10 openings, flagged high demand
  • Designed to fit around another job

Less good:

  • The preferred degree is from one of six named countries, which narrows the field
  • Rubric scoring at volume is repetitive, and rationales take real writing time
  • No pay structure, hours or duration on the listing
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
