What you'll do

This salaried role shapes micro1's robotics data business. You research what frontier robotics, world-model and physical-AI teams actually need from data, then design the datasets and collection methods to supply it: egocentric video, teleoperation, UMI-style capture, robot trajectories, sensor streams and simulation. You define the schemas, annotations, ground truth and evaluations for manipulation, navigation, spatial reasoning and physical understanding, and run experiments on which data and structure most improve model performance.

The customer-facing part is significant: working with AI and robotics labs to turn research needs into data pipelines and products, and keeping the company's robotics data strategy current with the literature. It is still data-for-AI work, done from the designer's chair rather than the annotator's.

Who fits

  • Two to five or more years in robotics, computer vision, multimodal learning, embodied AI or applied ML research
  • A strong grasp of physical AI and multimodal data
  • The ability to turn research problems into concrete datasets, experiments and specs
  • Strong technical communication across teams
  • A degree in robotics, CS, EE, ML or similar, or equivalent experience

Bonus: time at a leading robotics or autonomy lab, imitation learning or teleop pipelines, multimodal robotics datasets, hardware and sensor integration, and data collection for manipulation or navigation.

What it pays

The ad's compensation notice gives a national base salary range of $200,000–320,000 USD, the widest and highest of micro1's three technical-staff listings in this set, plus equity eligibility and possible performance bonuses. Benefits include up to 100% reimbursement of health-insurance premiums, paid time off and a 401(k) with company match.

The job card instead shows $500,000–1,500,000/year and the detail panel an hourly figure; neither matches the written notice, and the ad does not explain the card figure. We list the base range.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Salaried with equity and benefits
  • The lowest experience floor of the three technical-staff roles (two years)
  • Direct influence over how robotics training data gets built

Less good:

  • One opening
  • Conflicting pay figures on the listing; confirm the total package
  • No hiring countries stated, though the 401(k) points to US employment
  • AI tools are used in candidate screening, per the ad
