SuperAnnotate

SuperAnnotate is an AI data platform whose expert network hires through SME Careers: doctors, lawyers, engineers, linguists and other specialists who annotate, evaluate and QA training data for AI companies. Applicants take a recorded AI interview, contract through Deel, and start each project with a paid bootcamp. Hourly work is tracked with monitoring software.

How it works

SME Careers is where SuperAnnotate hires the specialists behind its data work, and SuperAnnotate's own site confirms the link: its AI data services page describes the SuperAnnotate Expert Network, and its "Apply to join as an expert" button leads to sme.careers. The SME site's footer names SME Solutions Inc. as the operator, and it recruits people with advanced degrees or hands-on professional knowledge across the sciences, languages and culture, law, medicine, finance and the arts. It also runs a separate network referrer track for people who recruit other experts.

SuperAnnotate jobs on SME Careers follow a documented sequence. You create an account and submit an application with your CV, apply to open roles, then take a recorded, AI-assisted interview from home. SME's help centre says automated tools produce a summary and initial assessment, human reviewers take part in every final decision, and grading usually takes one to two business days. Some roles allow a retake, within an attempt limit. If you qualify, the team screens your profile and invites you to onboard, which means a contract and identity check through Deel plus joining the project Discord.

Most projects then start with a bootcamp, which SME describes as a paid training period where you learn the guidelines and complete reviewed training tasks. Pass it and you move to production as an annotator or QA reviewer. Fail it and you are offboarded from that project only, not from the platform.

Hourly projects are tracked with Insightful, a desktop time tracker, and the rules are strict. Only active time is paid. Idle time is not, and neither is unproductive time, which covers social media, YouTube and any AI tool your project has not explicitly allowed. SME says random verification checks may review screenshots, screen recordings and the URLs you visited while tracking.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Bootcamp is paid, and failing one project's bootcamp leaves you eligible for others
  • The payout cycle is published in detail, and SME says money usually arrives within one to three days of a payout being submitted to Deel
  • Deel handles contracts and payments internationally, and SME's home page cites experts from more than 40 countries

Less good:

  • Screen monitoring comes with every hourly project, and time the tracker classifies as idle or unproductive is simply not paid
  • One of the testimonials SME publishes on its own home page, from a QA lead, says plainly that work is inconsistent as a contractor
  • Independent reports are sparse. The only Trustpilot review when we checked described being ghosted after the AI interview, and roundups of worker feedback describe hours spent on applications and interviews that never led to a project

About this page

Facts above come from sme.careers, the SME Careers help centre at docs.sme.careers (its welcome, interview, Deel, bootcamp, time tracking and weekly payout pages) and SuperAnnotate's AI data services page, last checked 29 September 2026. SME describes project pay as transparent but publishes rates only per project, so the typical-pay fields are empty, and it publishes no country list. Worker reports are attributed in the sentence that makes the claim. Browse comparable expert work in data, AI and ML or science and maths.
