What you'll do
You are handed a writing prompt and several AI-generated answers to it, and your job is to say which is better and why. micro1 calls the exercise a Write-like-Human Eval. The score is the quick part; the rationale is the deliverable, because a number tells a model nothing about what went wrong and a paragraph of editorial reasoning does.
The criteria named on the ad are clarity, tone, helpfulness and adherence to instructions. In practice the last of those does most of the work: a response can be fluent, well-structured and entirely beside the point, and catching that gap is the skill being bought. Alongside the scoring you document where the writing could be more useful as instruction, and keep your judgements consistent with reviewers and project managers working asynchronously alongside you.
What you need
- Native-level English and exceptional written communication
- A track record in technical writing, editing or content evaluation
- The ability to judge clarity, tone, coherence and usefulness in technical and instructional content
- Familiarity with digital platforms for content review, annotation or evaluation
- Close attention to detail in both the analysis and the write-up
- The discipline to work independently, hit deadlines and communicate in a remote setting
Experience with AI systems or model evaluation is listed as a plus, not a requirement. Everything above sits under "preferred qualifications", and unlike micro1's higher-paying editorial listings there is no degree requirement and no list of acceptable former employers.
Eligibility is narrower than most of this board, though: the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom only.
What it pays
$90–140/hour, micro1's own published figure, and the same band it runs for its Product Designer and UX Designer evaluation listings. That is a strong rate against technical writing contract work generally.
The band is $50 wide with no published basis for where you land in it, so plan around $90 until you have an offer. The ad also says nothing about whether the hourly figure buys your time or is a per-task equivalent, which is the question to ask before you accept.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A published band well above typical technical writing and editing contract rates
- Ten openings, more than most listings on this board carry
- No degree gate and no named-employer filter, which is unusual for micro1 roles at this rate
- Your existing judgement is the product; no AI background is needed and no new craft has to be learned
- Fully remote and asynchronous
Less good:
- Restricted to the US, Canada and the UK
- A $50-wide band with no published basis for placement
- No compensation structure, project duration, weekly hours or start date stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- Evaluation work is repetitive by design; volume of scored responses is the job, not one polished document
- The customer project is not named, so you cannot tell whose writing standards you are encoding
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 12 September 2026. The $90–140/hour band, the ten openings, the three-country eligibility list and every qualification above are its own published text for this listing.
No pay structure, project duration or weekly hours are published, and the customer is not named, so those fields are left open rather than guessed. Screening and payment run at the platform level. See micro1.
