How it works

Anyone searching for Lionbridge AI jobs should know first that the name has changed hands. The original Lionbridge AI division, the crowd of raters and annotators that most older guides describe, was sold to TELUS International in a deal announced in November 2020 and completed in March 2021; that work now sits with TELUS Digital. The TrainAI community is not Lionbridge either. It is run by RWS, a separate language company, and its own page says official TrainAI contact only ever comes from rws.com and moravia.com addresses.

What Lionbridge runs today is its own freelance community of linguists, interpreters, crowd workers, testers and specialists, which it puts at more than 500,000 people across 450+ locales. AI data work is recruited through a separate portal, ai-opportunities.lionbridge.com, which sets out four steps: explore and select a project, submit an application with any assessment the project requires, get approved for onboarding, then start contributing on Lionbridge's AuroraStudio platform. Lionbridge's careers pages describe the work as data annotation across text, images and audio, prompt writing and data creation, and response editing, evaluation and output validation. The stated minimums are native-level proficiency in your target language, fluency in English or your source language, an interest in AI, and being 18 or over.

Lionbridge Games is the games arm. Its careers page recruits for functional testing, localisation testing, test management and project management, which is game QA and localisation rather than AI training.

Worth knowing

Good:

• The minimums are about language, not degrees, and the crowd covers locales that most AI training platforms never recruit for. If you speak a less common language, our language roles and the bilingual pay guide are worth reading alongside this page
• The portal states you can work on more than one project at a time, and that projects run from one-off tasks to several weeks or months
• All of it is framed as independent contractor work with flexible hours

Less good:

• Lionbridge publishes no pay rate, payment method or payout schedule on its public AI pages. Rates appear only on individual project listings, so you cannot compare it with other platforms before applying
• Reviews of Lionbridge on Trustpilot are heavily negative (1.7 out of 5 across 41 reviews when we checked). Freelancers there describe late or withheld payments, work rejected as low quality after a project had ended, accounts closed without explanation and support messages going unanswered
• A July 2026 Trustpilot review from an experienced contractor describes expected volume doubling while rates were cut. A minority of long-standing freelancers on the same page report years of on-time payment, so experiences clearly vary by project
• Approval is per project: registering and passing one assessment does not mean work is waiting for you
