How it works

Welocalize is a language services company, and its AI training data work now runs under the Welo Data name. Welocalize AI training jobs are posted on the Welo Global job board, where most roles are freelance and tied to one language and one country: ads quality raters, search raters, AI data annotators, speech and video data collection, and a number of specialist and PhD-level evaluation roles. Welo Data lists AI safety and harm rating, search relevance, multilingual annotation, LLM reasoning and ranking tasks, and cultural and linguistic assessments among its project types.

Welo Data sets the process out in six steps: apply for a specific role, create a Welo Works account, complete a language and cultural assessment, study the optional training material, pass a task-related qualification exam, then submit payment details and sign the agreement. Some rater postings advertise no formal interview, only a self-paced, automated recruitment process.

Payment runs on an invoice model rather than a balance you withdraw. Completed tasks are gathered into a purchase order in Workday, you raise the invoice against it, and the money lands in a Hyperwallet account, from which you transfer it to your bank. Worth knowing

Good:

• Welo Data says you choose when you work, how often and how many tasks you take on, and most roles are task-based
• Language coverage is unusually wide; Welo Data cites more than 150 locales, including dialects and regional variants, which makes it one of the more realistic options for speakers of less common languages. See the languages filter for comparable roles
• The help centre publishes its payment terms in writing, and Welo Data invoices are paid on a much shorter cycle than Welocalize's general localisation work
• Welo Data names the only domains it contacts people from, which makes impersonation scams easier to spot

Less good:

• Task supply is uneven, and Welocalize says so itself: its help centre states that availability depends on client demand, varies by day and season, and that no tasks being available is common at weekends
• Reviewers on Glassdoor and Indeed repeatedly rate pay and benefits as the weakest part of the job, and Indeed reviewers of rater roles say task availability fluctuates too much to treat as a main income
• On Trustpilot, where Welocalize scores poorly, recent 2026 reviews describe roles disappearing from dashboards after qualifying, accounts deactivated without explanation, and hours of unpaid qualification testing ending in a failed score
• Several Trustpilot complaints describe scams run by people posing as Welocalize and asking for fees. Welo Data states it never asks for fees or equipment purchases, so any request like that is not from the company. Our guide on spotting fake AI training jobs covers the pattern
• Most roles are locked to residents of one country for one language, so a fluent speaker living elsewhere will often not qualify

Welo Data does not publish a platform-wide rate. Pay is set per role and stated on individual postings, and the help centre says your payment method and frequency are confirmed during project onboarding, so the typical-pay fields are left empty rather than generalised from one listing.
