Psychology and mental health AI training jobs: tasks, pay and who qualifies

Overview · 1 week ago

Psychology and mental health AI training jobs pay psychologists, psychiatrists and specialist clinicians to review cases, write scenarios and judge how AI responds to distress. From 20 listings on this site: the tasks, what they pay (16 of 20 at $100 to $200 an hour) and who qualifies.

What psychology AI training work involves

People bring anxiety, trauma and self-harm to AI models every day, and labs pay clinicians to teach those models to answer well. Psychology and mental health AI training jobs turn that clinical judgement into material a model can learn from. On 29 September 2026 this site listed 20 such roles out of 699 listings in total, all within the Health & Medicine filter and all posted by micro1.

The listings describe four kinds of task, usually combined in one role:

  • Reviewing case material and giving feedback from professional experience, as in micro1's Military Veteran Mental Health Experts listing, which centres on trauma, PTSD, TBI and adjustment disorders.
  • Writing scenarios and prompts that reflect what real clients present with.
  • Evaluating AI responses for clinical accuracy, safety and cultural fit.
  • Structured risk assessment: micro1's adolescent suicide and self-harm specialist applies instruments such as the C-SSRS, separates self-harm from ideation and intent, and recommends a response pathway.

Language is a large part of this market. 13 of the 20 listings require a language besides English. micro1 runs paired psychologist and psychiatrist listings in Japanese, Indonesian, Gujarati, Tagalog, Lithuanian and Georgian. Its Japanese psychologist listing asks you to catch where a model mishandles distress voiced indirectly or through physical complaints.

What it pays

The rates are among the highest on the board and unusually uniform. 16 of the 20 listings advertise $100–200 an hour: the bilingual psychologist and psychiatrist roles, the veteran and child trauma roles, and the developmental psychology PhD. Three adolescent specialist roles (eating disorders, suicide and self-harm, substance use) pay $45–95. The median midpoint across all 20 is $150.

The outlier is micro1's Behavioral Analyst at $20–70, which labels behavioural cues in text, audio and video.

As with most expert work on this site, the band is wide and the listings do not say what places you within it, so plan around the floor.

Who qualifies

Most roles require a doctorate. Psychologist listings ask for a PhD in psychology, psychiatrist listings for a medical degree with a psychiatry residency, and the veteran role accepts either. The adolescent specialist roles want three to five or more years post-qualification, an active licence and a recent caseload in that population.

A few roles do not require clinical practice. micro1's developmental psychology listing says clinical experience is optional, and suits researchers with a doctorate in child development. The behavioural analyst role states no degree or licence, and names therapists, counsellors and acting coaches among suitable backgrounds.

All 20 listings are open worldwide. That matters for clinicians outside the US, since 14 of the 45 other healthcare listings on the site restrict where you live.

Beyond these listings

Psychiatrists can also apply to the physician roles covered in our medical AI training guide; Mercor's clinical medicine listing names psychiatry among its accepted specialties. The full health and medicine filter shows everything open now.
