What you'll do

This is evaluation work built around architectural judgment. You write realistic scenarios that run from schematic design through construction documents, write reference answers that show the design and code reasoning behind each decision, and grade model output for design quality and code compliance.

The part the ad stresses most is catching designs that read as polished but would not survive plan review. A model can produce a convincing floor plan; your job is to know which ones an actual plan reviewer would send back, and to explain why in writing.

Who fits

  • A professional degree in architecture or an active architecture license
  • At least 2 years in design or construction documentation
  • Depth in building codes, construction documents and design development
  • Clear written English, since documenting the reasoning is the product
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours a week

Preferred: NCARB licensure or active progress toward it, Revit or BIM workflow depth, and experience across multiple building types. The application form also asks for an architect license or registration, marked optional.

What it pays

The ad states $100 to $125/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The AfterQuery board headlines $113/hour, which sits inside that range.

Terms stated in the ad: fully remote and fully async with no fixed hours; a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum; independent contractor status; ongoing project work rather than single task batches; and no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers.

How hiring works

The ad lists five steps: an application of about five minutes (resume plus a few structured questions); a resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; a possible written assessment for further placement; onboarding (sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, get platform access); and a project match, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Pay in the $100–125 band, with the rate fixed from experience
  • No monitoring software and no fixed hours
  • Ongoing project work, not one-off batches
  • Every application gets a decision

Less good:

  • At least 10 hours a week is required, so it is not a casual side gig
  • Project match is not guaranteed on a timetable; the ad says "usually" within a week
  • A written assessment may be required before placement
