What you'll do
You write the process problems and then judge the model's answers. According to the ad: author realistic process scenarios from mass balances through safety review, write reference answers with the process and safety reasoning behind each decision, grade model output for technical accuracy and process safety, and flag designs that read plausible but would be unsafe or infeasible at scale.
The scale-up angle is what makes this different from a chemistry quiz. A flowsheet can look coherent on paper and still hide a runaway-reaction or relief-sizing problem, and the ad is asking for engineers who can spot that.
Who fits
- A degree in chemical engineering or a closely related field
- At least 2 years of process, plant or product engineering experience
- Depth in process design, process safety or scale up
- Clear written English for documenting process reasoning
- Ability to commit at least 10 hours per week
Preferred: a PE license or process safety certifications, process simulation depth (Aspen Plus or HYSYS are named) and regulated industry experience such as pharma or petrochemical.
What it pays
The board headlines $115/hour. The ad's contract section gives $100–130/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience rather than negotiated down after you start. The minimum is 10 hours per week with no maximum, and the ad states there is no screen recording, no keystroke monitoring and no idle timers.
How hiring works
Five steps, per the ad: a roughly five-minute application (resume plus structured questions), a resume review against a published rubric with a decision for every applicant, a written assessment you may be asked to take for further placement, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access), and a project match to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Stated range and weekly payment
- Fully remote and async with no fixed hours
- Ongoing project work rather than single task batches
- Pharma and petrochemical backgrounds are named as a plus
Less good:
- A 10-hour weekly minimum is a real commitment
- Being matched to live work is described as usual within a week, not promised
- The ad does not say how many chemical engineering projects are active
