What you'll do
AfterQuery builds evaluation data that AI labs use to measure model judgment, and this role covers transactional law. You author realistic deal scenarios from term sheet through closing, write reference answers that explain the reasoning behind each drafting and diligence call (reps and warranties, indemnification structure), and grade model output on purchase agreements, diligence summaries, disclosure schedules and board matters. The point of the grading is to catch analysis that reads as polished but would expose a client to real risk.
The ad describes ongoing project work rather than single task batches, and says you are matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Who fits
- A JD and active bar admission in a US jurisdiction
- 2+ years of corporate or M&A practice at a firm or in house, with hands-on deal work such as purchase agreements, due diligence or board matters
- Clear written English; you need to explain why a provision is drafted as it is
- A commitment of at least 10 hours a week
- Preferred: AmLaw or sophisticated boutique deal experience, private equity, venture or public company transaction depth, in-house or board advisory work
The ad does not require residence in a particular country, only a US bar admission.
What it pays
The ad states $100 to $200 per hour, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The board headlines $150/hour. Pay is weekly via Stripe. There is a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum, so you can scale up or down. The ad also says there is no screen recording, no keystroke monitoring and no idle timers, and that you are an independent contractor.
How hiring works
Applying takes about five minutes: a resume and a few structured questions. Every application is read against a published rubric and gets a decision. You may be asked to take a written assessment, then you sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe and get platform access. The AfterQuery company page describes the assessment and verification steps in the company's help centre.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Stated range up to $200/hour, with rate set from experience
- Hours are yours to set above the 10 hour floor
- Explicit no-monitoring policy
- Applications get a decision against a published rubric
Less good:
- A US bar admission and two years of deal practice make it narrow
- A 10 hour weekly minimum is a real commitment alongside a full-time job
- The headline board rate sits mid-range, so expect to land between $100 and $200 based on experience
