Skills
  • environmental engineering
  • site assessment
  • permitting
  • remediation
  • gis
  • regulatory compliance

What you'll do

You assess and produce environmental work product that AI models are trained and tested on. Per the ad, you evaluate AI-generated environmental analysis for technical and regulatory accuracy, create expert demonstrations of site assessment, permitting and remediation workflows, and rank and label model responses against environmental standards and regulations.

The ad lists the kinds of content you will see: site assessments, permitting and compliance analysis, remediation design, air and water quality modeling, and impact studies. The demonstrations are drawn from your own practice, so regulatory fluency matters as much as the science.

Who fits

  • A degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, geology, hydrology or a closely related field
  • At least 2 years of professional environmental work (assessment, permitting, compliance, remediation or modeling)
  • Strong written communication skills

Preferred: a PE license, PG license or CHMM certification; experience with NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Air Act or the Clean Water Act; and fluency with modeling or GIS tools (AERMOD, MODFLOW and ArcGIS are named). The application form optionally asks for a PE, PG or CHMM license or certification number and state, if held.

What it pays

The board shows $100/hour. The ad says the work is paid hourly, fully remote and fully async, and that you choose when and how much you work. It publishes no range, weekly minimum or payment terms; the company page describes how AfterQuery pays contractors in general.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Hourly pay with no fixed schedule
  • Fully remote and async
  • The qualifying fields are broad: geology and hydrology count alongside environmental science and engineering

Less good:

  • No pay range, minimum hours or payment terms on the listing
  • The named regulations (NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act) are US statutes, so the work leans toward US regulatory experience, though the ad does not state a location requirement
  • No hiring steps described; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification, covered on the company page
