What you'll do

This is the one Education listing aimed at teachers of English as a second language. You write ESL teaching scenarios across proficiency levels, from beginner literacy to academic English, and give reference answers with the pedagogical reasoning behind each instructional decision.

Grading focuses on accuracy, level appropriateness and pedagogical soundness. The flagging task is particular to language teaching: explanations that read as correct but would confuse a learner, such as a grammatically perfect rule delivered in vocabulary far above the student's level.

Who fits

  • TEFL, TESOL or CELTA certification, or a state ESL teaching license
  • At least 2 years of classroom or online ESL teaching (online experience counts)
  • Depth in lesson planning, error correction and proficiency assessment
  • Clear written English for documenting instructional reasoning

Preferred: experience across several proficiency levels or age groups, exam preparation such as IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge, and curriculum or materials development. The application form asks what learner levels and age groups you have taught (required), and has optional fields for TEFL/TESOL certification and a teaching license.

What it pays

The board headlines $53/hr; the ad's contract terms state $35 to $70/hr, recorded here as the range. The ad says rates are set from experience, not negotiated down afterwards, and paid weekly via Stripe.

Also stated: remote and fully async with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours per week with no maximum, no screen recording, no keystroke monitoring and no idle timers, and ongoing project work rather than single task batches.

How hiring works

The ad lists a short application with resume and structured questions, a resume review against a published rubric, a possible written assessment, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access) and a project match usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Accepts a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA certificate as well as a state license, which suits teachers who work abroad or online
  • Online ESL experience explicitly counts toward the 2 years
  • Range, weekly pay and no-monitoring terms are written in the ad

Less good:

  • The work is in English evaluating English teaching, so strong written English is a hard requirement
  • The 10 hour weekly minimum is a commitment alongside other teaching
  • The ad does not explain how experience places you in the $35 to $70 range
