What you'll do

The work is evaluating image generation through a designer's eye. You write realistic brand and layout briefs, the kind an agency or in-house team would assign; write reference critiques explaining the typography and layout reasoning behind each judgment; and grade generated images for text rendering, logo fidelity, composition and brand consistency.

The ad singles out outputs that look polished at a glance but break typographic and brand rules a professional would catch. Image models are notorious for garbled lettering and inconsistent logos, so expect to spend your time on exactly those details.

Who fits

  • At least 2 years of professional graphic design across brand, editorial or campaign work
  • Real typography depth: you can explain why a lockup, grid or type pairing works
  • Hands-on fluency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign, with a portfolio
  • Strong written English, to turn visual judgment into clear, teachable reasoning
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours a week

Preferred: logo and identity system portfolios, editorial, packaging or campaign experience, and experience prompting or evaluating image generation tools.

What it pays

The ad states $40 to $80/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The AfterQuery board headlines $60/hour, the middle of that range.

Also stated: fully remote and async with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week with no maximum, independent contractor status, ongoing project work rather than single task batches, and no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers.

How hiring works

Five steps are listed: a roughly five-minute application (resume plus structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; a possible written assessment; onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access); and project matching, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Work stays in your specialty and is judged on craft, not output volume
  • No monitoring software; you set your hours
  • A range that reaches $80/hour for experienced designers

Less good:

  • The $40 floor is well below the headline for junior portfolios, and your position in the range depends on experience
  • 10 hours a week minimum
  • A written assessment may be required before placement
