What you'll do
You turn service-call experience into evaluation material. That means writing realistic HVAC scenarios from symptom through diagnosis and repair, and reference answers that explain the system and code reasoning behind each step: why that charge, why that duct size, why that sequence of operations. You also grade model output for technical accuracy, efficiency and safety, and flag advice that reads well but would, in the ad's words, kill a compressor or vent CO into a home.
Who qualifies
- EPA Section 608 certification, plus a state HVAC licence where your state requires one (required)
- At least 2 years of field experience in installation, service or controls (required)
- Working command of refrigeration cycles, airflow and load calculation (required)
- Clear written English to document diagnostic reasoning (required)
- Able to commit at least 10 hours a week (required)
- Preferred: NATE certification or an HVAC contractor licence; commercial refrigeration or building automation depth; heat pump, geothermal or high-efficiency system experience
Residential service, commercial refrigeration and controls technicians are all welcome. The application form has an optional field for your EPA Section 608 certification.
What it pays
The ad states $50 to $90/hr, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The board headlines $70/hr. Work is remote and async with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum. The ad says there is no screen recording, no keystroke monitoring and no idle timers.
How hiring works
Per the ad: apply (about five minutes, resume plus a few structured questions); your resume is read against a published rubric and you get a decision; you may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement; onboarding (sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, get platform access); then a project match in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Paid for trade knowledge with no tools, travel or job site
- Weekly Stripe pay at a rate set by experience
- Ongoing project work rather than single task batches
- No monitoring software
Less good:
- Requires EPA 608 certification, so it is closed to uncertified techs
- A 10-hour weekly minimum is a firm commitment
- Placement depends on a project match after onboarding
