What you'll do

You write the counseling scenarios that AI labs use to test whether a model handles mental health conversations safely. That means realistic cases, including risk and ethical dilemmas, plus reference responses that spell out the therapeutic reasoning behind each choice. You also grade model output for clinical accuracy, ethics and risk handling.

The distinctive part is the last duty: flagging responses that sound warm and empathetic but mishandle risk, and saying precisely why. It is closer to clinical supervision of a very fluent trainee than to counseling itself, and your written reasoning is the product.

Who fits

• An active, unencumbered LPC or LMHC license (US)
• 2+ years of counseling practice after licensure
• Treatment planning, safety assessment and evidence-based modality experience
• Clear written English; another clinician should be able to follow your reasoning
• Able to commit at least 10 hours a week

Preferred: depth in trauma, substance use, couples or adolescents; crisis line or community mental health experience; clinical supervision or counselor education experience. The application form optionally asks for a counselor or social worker license.

What it pays

The board headlines $83/hr; the ad's own contract section gives a range of $65 to $100/hr, set from your experience and paid weekly via Stripe. The ad says the rate is not negotiated down after you start.

Worth knowing

Good:

• Fully remote and async, with no fixed hours and no caseload
• Ongoing project work rather than single task batches
• No screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, according to the ad
• Hours scale up or down week to week, with no maximum

Less good:

• Minimum 10 hours a week is expected
• Independent contractor status: no benefits, your own taxes
• US licensure is required, so this is not open to counselors licensed elsewhere
• Placement may depend on a written assessment

How hiring works

Apply with a resume and a few structured questions (about five minutes). Applications are read against a published rubric and get a decision. You may be asked to take a written assessment, then you sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe and get platform access. The ad says matching to live work usually happens within a week of onboarding.
