What you'll do
You write philosophical scenarios that test real reasoning, from argument reconstruction to applied ethical dilemmas, and you write the reference answer with the structure made explicit: premises, inferences and objections laid bare.
As grader you score model output for validity, soundness and fair treatment of the strongest opposing view. The thing the ad wants flagged is reasoning that sounds profound but equivocates, begs the question, or collapses under a counterexample, which is a fair description of how language models often fail on hard questions.
Who fits
- An advanced degree in philosophy or a closely related field
- At least two years of teaching, research or published philosophical work
- Depth in an area such as ethics, epistemology, logic or philosophy of mind; the ad also names political philosophy and says "beyond"
- Clear written English for constructing and evaluating arguments
- Able to commit at least 10 hours a week
Preferred: a PhD and peer reviewed publications, formal logic or decision theory training, and applied ethics experience such as bioethics or AI ethics. The ad's ideal contributor can steelman a position they reject and explain precisely where an argument fails.
What it pays
The ad states $50 to $100 an hour, set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start; the board headlines $75. Pay is weekly via Stripe. The minimum is 10 hours a week with no maximum, there is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, and the work is ongoing independent contractor project work rather than single task batches.
How hiring works
As described in the ad: a five minute application with resume and structured questions, resume review against a published rubric, a written assessment you may be asked to take, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access), then matching to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Any area of philosophy is welcome, including logic-heavy and applied ethics profiles
- Remote, async and flexible by the week
- Weekly Stripe pay and no monitoring
- Judged on rigor of argument, not on output volume
Less good:
- An advanced degree and a 10-hour weekly minimum are both required
- Your rate inside $50 to $100 is not stated up front
- The ad does not say whether the written assessment is paid; the company page covers AfterQuery's wider rules
