Skills
  • pe license
  • design review
  • code compliance
  • engineering safety
  • technical writing

What you'll do

Licensed professional engineers author and grade the design and review scenarios that AI labs use to test model judgment. Per the ad:

  • Author realistic engineering scenarios, from design through review and approval
  • Write reference answers with the code and safety reasoning behind each decision
  • Grade model output for technical accuracy and code compliance
  • Flag designs that read plausible but would not meet code or safety standards

The emphasis is on regulatory and safety judgment, the thing a license is meant to certify.

Who qualifies

  • An active PE license in at least one US state
  • At least 2 years of professional practice in your engineering discipline
  • Experience with design review and responsible charge of engineering work
  • Clear written English for documenting engineering reasoning
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours per week

Preferred: PE licenses in more than one state; plan review, permitting or expert witness experience; depth across several disciplines such as civil, mechanical or electrical. The application form asks for your Professional Engineer (PE) credential, marked optional.

What it pays

The ad states $105 to $190/hour, paid weekly via Stripe. The rate is set from your experience and, per the ad, not negotiated down after you start. The board headlines $148/hour. Work is fully remote and fully asynchronous with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum. The ad says there is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, and that this is ongoing project work for an independent contractor.

How hiring works

Per the ad: apply (about five minutes, resume plus a few structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; possibly a written assessment for further placement; onboarding (sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, get platform access); then a match to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A wide stated range, up to $190/hour
  • Weekly Stripe pay and no monitoring software, stated in the ad
  • Ongoing work with hours you adjust each week

Less good:

  • An active US state PE license is a hard requirement
  • A minimum of 10 hours a week
  • The written assessment is only "possible", and being accepted does not guarantee a match to work
