What you'll do

You write realistic engineering analysis problems from your own work, covering designed experiments, statistical process control, and reliability and failure data, and work each through to a reference answer that AI labs use to test model judgment. As with AfterQuery's other analysis roles, the reasoning behind every step is part of the deliverable, and you are expected to catch mistakes that look plausible but that only a practitioner would spot.

The ad is clear that it is not looking for site reliability engineers or software engineers; "reliability" here means product and process reliability, with statistics at the centre.

Who fits

  • A degree in engineering, physics or statistics
  • 3+ years full time in a reliability, quality, process or test role; internships and school do not count
  • Hands-on experience with design of experiments, statistical process control or reliability analysis
  • Comfort with Minitab, JMP, Python or R
  • Strong written English and the ability to explain an analysis clearly
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours per week
  • Preferred: a Master's in engineering or statistics; experience with capability studies, measurement system analysis, life data analysis or uncertainty quantification

What it pays

The board shows $115/hr and the ad text gives no range, so that is the figure recorded here. Pay is weekly via Stripe, as the ad states.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Fully async with no fixed hours, a 10 hour weekly minimum and no maximum, so you can scale up or down
  • The ad states there is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers
  • A rare AI-evaluation role aimed at manufacturing and quality engineers rather than software people

Less good:

  • Three years in a reliability, quality, process or test role is required, and only full-time work counts
  • Software and site reliability backgrounds are explicitly not what the ad wants
  • The ad does not describe the hiring steps; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and identity verification (see the company page)
