What you'll do
The science track adds a dimension the other teacher listings lack: lab safety. You write science instruction scenarios that include labs and common misconceptions, and reference answers with the scientific reasoning behind each explanation.
On the grading side, you score model output for scientific accuracy and lab safety, and flag demonstrations and explanations that read well but are wrong or unsafe. A fluent but unsafe demonstration is exactly the kind of thing a classroom teacher catches faster than a generalist reviewer.
Who fits
- A teaching license or certification with a science endorsement
- At least 2 years teaching science in a classroom
- Depth in at least one discipline: biology, chemistry, physics or earth science
- Clear written English for explaining scientific reasoning
You need depth in one discipline rather than all four. Preferred: experience teaching advanced courses such as AP or IB, lab design and inquiry-based instruction, and science fair or student research mentoring. The form asks what level you teach (required) and has an optional field for a teaching license or certification.
What it pays
The board headlines $60/hr; the ad's contract terms state $45 to $75/hr, recorded here as the range. The ad says the rate is set from experience and not negotiated down once you start, and that payment is weekly via Stripe.
Also stated: remote and fully async with no fixed hours, a 10 hour weekly minimum with no maximum, no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, and ongoing project work rather than single task batches.
How hiring works
The ad lists five steps: a short application (resume plus structured questions), a resume review against a published rubric, a possible written assessment, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access), and a project match usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Only one science discipline is needed, so a biology or chemistry specialist does not have to cover physics
- Weekly pay and no monitoring, stated in the ad
Less good:
- A science endorsement is listed as required
- A minimum of 10 hours a week is a real commitment alongside teaching
- The ad does not say how your experience maps onto the $45 to $75 range
