What you'll do

You build the SQL and data modeling scenarios that AfterQuery's AI lab customers use to test model judgment. The ad lists four tasks: author realistic analytics scenarios from raw tables through tested data models; write reference answers with the modeling and query reasoning behind each decision; grade model output for SQL correctness and warehouse efficiency; and flag queries that read clean but return wrong or expensive results.

The grading side matters: a model-written query that runs is not necessarily a correct or cheap one, and spotting that is the skill the ad is selling.

Who fits

  • 2+ years of professional analytics engineering or SQL-heavy analytics work
  • Expert SQL across joins, window functions, CTEs and query optimization
  • Hands-on experience with a modern warehouse such as BigQuery, Snowflake or Redshift
  • Clear written English for documenting data modeling reasoning
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours per week
  • Preferred: dbt or a similar transformation framework; dimensional or semantic data modeling; orchestration exposure such as Airflow or Dagster

What it pays

The board headlines $80/hr. The ad's contract section states $60 to $100/hr, paid weekly via Stripe, and says your rate is set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. This listing records the $60 to $100 range.

How hiring works

The ad lays out five steps: apply (about five minutes, a resume plus a few structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; a written assessment you may be asked to take for further placement; onboarding, where you sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe and get platform access; and a project match, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Stated range, weekly pay and a rate set from experience
  • Fully remote and async with no fixed hours, a 10 hour minimum and no maximum
  • The ad states there is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers
  • Ongoing project work rather than single task batches

Less good:

  • A 10 hour weekly minimum applies
  • The assessment is described as something you "may" be asked to take, so the path to a first project is not guaranteed
  • The ad does not say how many projects are available at any time
