What you'll do
You write the tax questions an AI model should be able to answer, and mark its attempts. The ad lists tax return preparation, planning strategies, deduction optimisation, tax law interpretation, audit representation and estimated tax calculations as the topics. You evaluate and validate model responses, with detailed feedback on accuracy and adherence to tax accounting practice and IRS regulations, and you work with a team of tax and technical experts to tune how hard each question is.
Who fits
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- Proven experience as a tax accountant, tax preparer or in tax compliance, with a solid grasp of federal and state tax law
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication and attention to detail
- Preferred: several years across tax areas (individual, corporate, partnership, estate, international), Big 4 experience (listed as highly preferred), QuickBooks or other accounting software, tax publishing or tax technology work, a CPA licence, Enrolled Agent designation or master's in taxation, and familiarity with AI tax tools
The application form asks for a CPA number and an IRS PTIN, and marks both optional.
What it pays
The board shows $113/hour and the ad text gives no range, so we list a single figure. The ad does not publish its payment terms, weekly hours or minimum commitment; it says only that the role is remote, asynchronous and on your own schedule. The AfterQuery page covers the weekly Stripe payout cycle.
Worth knowing
Good:
- The credentials are optional, so experienced preparers without a CPA can still apply
- Wide topic range, from returns to estate and international tax
- Flexible, remote and self-scheduled
Less good:
- No stated weekly hours or project length
- Federal and state law changes, so questions need to stay current to be useful
- The ad does not describe the hiring process; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification
