What you'll do
You review, create and rank documentation that teaches AI models to explain complex systems clearly. The ad lists three jobs: evaluating AI-generated documentation (API references, how-to guides, release notes, user documentation) for accuracy, structure and clarity; creating expert demonstrations of those document types drawn from your own practice; and ranking and labelling model responses against documentation best practice.
It is an editor's and writer's judgment applied to machine output: spotting the confident-sounding paragraph that misdescribes a parameter, or the guide that skips a step.
Who fits
- At least 2 years of professional technical writing experience
- A portfolio of documentation you have owned (API docs, guides, manuals or release notes)
- Ability to explain complex technical systems clearly and accurately
Preferred: software, API or developer documentation experience, docs-as-code fluency (Markdown, Git, static site generators), and an STC certification or a technical degree. The application form asks for an STC or other technical writing certification number if you hold one, marked optional.
What it pays
The board shows $68/hour. The ad's contract section says only that work is paid hourly, fully remote and fully async, with you choosing when and how much you work; it gives no range. Payment cadence, weekly minimums and hiring steps are not published on the listing. See AfterQuery for how payouts and assessments generally work.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Fully remote and asynchronous, choose your own hours
- Draws on a writing portfolio rather than a degree
- A direct way to shape how models explain technical systems
Less good:
- A portfolio of owned documentation is required, which can be hard to show if your work is under NDA
- The ad does not state expected weekly hours or project length
- Hiring steps are not described; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification
