What you'll do

You act as the design judge for AI-generated interfaces. The ad lists four duties: author realistic product design scenarios from brief through polished UI; write reference critiques with the reasoning behind each judgment, from hierarchy and spacing to interaction patterns; grade generated UIs for usability, visual craft and whether they would survive real users; and demonstrate Figma workflows, from auto layout and components to prototyping, the way designers actually work.

The recurring theme is the interface that looks designed but would fail in use. Your value is explaining the gap between the two in teachable terms.

Who fits

  • At least 2 years of professional UI or UX design experience
  • Hands-on depth in Figma or a comparable product design tool
  • A portfolio showing shipped product or interface work
  • Clear written English for documenting design reasoning
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours a week

Preferred: design systems or component library experience, breadth across UX research, interaction design and visual design, and front-end familiarity such as HTML, CSS or developer handoff.

What it pays

The ad states $60 to $120/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The AfterQuery board headlines $90/hour, the midpoint.

Also stated: fully remote and async with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum, independent contractor status, ongoing project work rather than single task batches, and no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers.

How hiring works

The ad lists five steps: a five-minute application (resume plus structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; a possible written assessment for further placement; onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access); and project matching, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A wide band reaching $120/hour for experienced designers
  • Figma demonstration work is part of the role, not only critique
  • Hours you set each week, no monitoring software

Less good:

  • A portfolio of shipped work is required
  • 10 hours a week minimum
  • Where you land in the $60–120 range depends on experience, and a written assessment may precede placement
