What you'll do
AfterQuery wants working editors to judge video generation and to show how real editing is done. You author realistic post-production scenarios from raw footage through final cut; write reference critiques with the editorial reasoning behind each cut, from pacing and continuity to color and sound; grade generated video for continuity, pacing, motion quality and whether it would survive a client review; and demonstrate timeline workflows in Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or After Effects.
Motion graphics work is folded in for editors who have it, and the ad says motion designers and animators are welcome, with After Effects, Cinema 4D or Blender depth counted as a plus on top of editing craft.
Who fits
- At least 2 years of professional video editing or post-production, with a reel or portfolio of delivered work
- Hands-on depth in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut
- Strong written English, to turn editorial instinct into clear reasoning
- Able to commit at least 10 hours a week
Preferred: motion graphics or 2D and 3D animation in After Effects, Cinema 4D or Blender; color grading or sound design; and a broadcast, agency or high-volume social content background.
What it pays
The ad states $50 to $90/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The AfterQuery board headlines $70/hour, the midpoint.
Also stated: fully remote and async with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum, independent contractor status, ongoing project work rather than single task batches, and no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers.
How hiring works
Five steps are listed: a five-minute application (resume plus structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; a possible written assessment; onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access); and project matching, usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Open to editors across NLEs, plus motion designers with editing skills
- Judged on editorial quality rather than output volume
- No monitoring software and flexible weekly hours
Less good:
- A reel of delivered work is required
- 10 hours a week minimum
- Where you land in the $50–90 range depends on experience, and a written assessment may precede placement
