What you'll do
Autodesk Inventor Professional is the 3D mechanical design and assembly tool used heavily in machine building and industrial equipment design. This Mercor listing wants people who use it in that kind of work: mechanical engineers and machine or equipment designers.
The ad is one of Mercor's templated "Application Users" postings. It sets three conditions (Inventor Professional on your own Windows PC, real-world use, a high-resolution screen capture setup) and does not describe what you will actually do. Our reading of the pattern is that the work involves carrying out and capturing genuine workflows in the application, the kind of data used to train AI agents that operate professional desktop software. The ad itself does not say this, so ask at screening.
Think of the everyday Inventor work you already do (part modelling, large assemblies, constraints, drawings, frame or tube-and-pipe work if you use them) as the fluency on trial.
Who fits
- Inventor Professional on your own Windows PC, openable today; Mercor provides no licence, VM or hardware
- Hands-on professional use in mechanical or machine design
- Screenshots above 2.5 megapixels, from one high-resolution display (at least 2109×1186 at 16:9, 2000×1250 at 16:10, or similar thresholds for other ratios) or two 1080p-plus monitors captured together
The ad states no degree, experience length or location requirement.
What it pays
$45–55 per hour, matching Mercor's SolidWorks Premium and AutoCAD Mechanical listings. The three are separate postings, so a designer who works across Autodesk and Dassault tools can apply to each.
Weekly payment on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Directly pays for a specialist CAD skill, no degree requirement
- Remote and self-scheduled
- Early: no hires were shown on the listing when we read it, so the applicant pool may still be small
Less good:
- Inventor Professional is an expensive subscription, and most users run it on an employer's licence, which may not count
- No hires shown yet also means no signal of how much work flows through it
- No description of tasks, hours or duration; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded; independent contractor terms
