What you'll do

Origin (and its OriginPro edition) is the graphing and fitting package found on lab PCs across physics, chemistry and materials science. Mercor's listing targets the people who use it at the bench: experimental physicists, chemists, materials scientists and lab researchers doing scientific plotting and curve or peak fitting.

As with every "Application Users" listing, the ad specifies access, not tasks. Origin must be installed on your own Windows PC and open today, and your display must capture high-resolution screenshots. The client, tasks and hours are not described. The pattern is consistent with capturing real scientific-software workflows for AI agent training, but that is our reading, not a claim in the ad.

Fluency here looks like: importing instrument data into workbooks, building publication-quality multi-panel graphs, running nonlinear fits and peak analysis, and adjusting axis and layer settings without guesswork.

Who fits

  • Origin or OriginPro on your own Windows PC, openable today; no licence, VM or hardware provided
  • Hands-on experimental data analysis and plotting
  • Screenshots above 2.5 megapixels from one high-resolution monitor or two 1080p-plus monitors spanned into one capture (a lone 1080p screen does not qualify)

No degree, years or country requirement is published.

What it pays

$45–55 per hour, the STEM-tier band shared with Stata SE and EViews in the same statistics and data-analysis group. For postdocs and lab scientists, that compares favourably with typical research salaries on an hourly basis.

Weekly payment on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A niche lab tool that is paid for directly, no degree or publication requirement
  • Remote and self-scheduled, so it can sit alongside lab work
  • 2 hires shown this month when we checked

Less good:

  • Many researchers only have Origin through a site licence on a lab machine, which may not satisfy "your own PC"
  • No task description, hours or duration; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded, which rules out many international scientists working in the US
  • Contractor terms, no benefits

About this listing

A Mercor remote hourly contract, read on 24 September 2026. Pay, software, screen requirement, payment terms and visa limitation are the ad's own. Mercor states no confidential or proprietary information from any employer or institution is involved, so keep unpublished lab data out of it. See Mercor.
