What you'll do

Quartus II is the Intel (formerly Altera) design suite for FPGAs and CPLDs. Mercor's listing is for engineers who work in it: FPGA designers, digital design engineers and embedded hardware engineers.

The ad specifies the environment and nothing about the work. Quartus II must be installed on your own Windows PC and open today, and your display must support high-resolution screen captures. Tasks, client and hours are not described. The "Application Users" format points to carrying out and capturing real workflows in the tool (project setup, pin planning, compilation, timing analysis, programming) for training AI agents that operate engineering software; that is our inference.

The name matters slightly: "Quartus II" is the older branding, later superseded by Quartus Prime. The ad does not say whether a current Quartus Prime installation satisfies the requirement; worth asking before you apply.

Who fits

  • Quartus II installed on your own Windows PC; Mercor provides no licence, VM or hardware
  • Hands-on FPGA or CPLD design experience on Intel/Altera devices
  • Screenshots above 2.5 megapixels: a single high-resolution monitor (1440p-class or better, 16:10 at 2000×1250 or more, or an ultrawide) or two 1080p-plus monitors spanned into one image

No degree, years or country requirement is stated.

What it pays

$55–65 per hour, the "Code" tier. That is $10 more than Mercor's Vivado listing ($45–55, STEM tier) for the equivalent AMD/Xilinx toolchain. Engineers fluent in both vendors can apply to each; this is the better-paying one.

Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Higher band than the Vivado sibling for comparable skill
  • Free Lite editions of Intel's FPGA software exist, which may keep licence cost low (confirm the edition is accepted)
  • Remote and self-scheduled, weekly pay published

Less good:

  • Ambiguity over Quartus II versus Quartus Prime
  • No hires were shown on the listing when we read it
  • Tasks, hours and duration are not described; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded; independent contractor terms

About this listing

A Mercor remote hourly contract, read on 24 September 2026. Pay, software, screen requirement, payment terms and visa limitation are the ad's own. Mercor states no confidential or proprietary information from any employer or client is involved, so employer designs stay closed. Sister listing: Application Users - Vivado on Windows - STEM.
