What you'll do

VS Code is the most widely used code editor there is, and the ad's target audience reflects that: "software developers across any stack". Where the PyCharm version of this listing wants Python specialists, this one is open to anyone who works in VS Code daily, whether in TypeScript, Go, Rust, Python or something else.

The ad names the editor, the platform (your own Mac running macOS) and a screen resolution requirement, and no more. There are no tasks, no client and no hours in it. Like the rest of Mercor's "Application Users" family, the format points to recording real work inside the application at high resolution, the sort of data used to train AI agents that operate software. The ad does not say so directly, so confirm at screening.

For VS Code, the features the ad singles out are extensions, debugging and the integrated terminal. Expect realistic editor workflows around those: installing and configuring an extension, stepping through a debugger, running commands in the terminal pane, moving around a multi-file project. Someone who knows the command palette and settings well will be more useful than someone who only types code in it.

Who fits

  • Visual Studio Code installed on your own Mac running macOS, openable today; Mercor supplies no hardware, VM or licence (VS Code itself is free)
  • Real-world, hands-on experience with the editor
  • A capture setup above 2.5 megapixels, either:
    • one high-resolution monitor (for example 2560×1440 or better at 16:9, 2240×1400 or better at 16:10, or an ultrawide such as 3440×1440), which the built-in 14" and 16" MacBook Pro displays satisfy, or
    • two monitors of 1920×1080 or more side by side, captured as one image

No degree, years or country requirement is stated.

What it pays

$55–65 per hour, identical to the PyCharm listing and the other macOS developer-tool listings. Because VS Code is free and nearly universal, expect more competition for this one than for tools that need a paid licence. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • The lowest barrier in the family: free software, any language stack
  • MacBook Pros meet the screen requirement out of the box
  • Remote and self-scheduled, no degree requirement
  • If you also use PyCharm, you can apply to both listings separately

Less good:

  • No tasks, hours or duration published
  • A large potential applicant pool for the same rate
  • A single 1080p screen does not qualify
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported
  • Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early

About this listing

A Mercor remote hourly contract, read on 24 September 2026. The rate, the macOS requirement, the screen specification and payment terms are the ad's own. Keep employer code and credentials out of anything you record; Mercor states no confidential information is involved. See Mercor.
