What you'll do

This listing sits one step removed from the AI work itself. A frontier AI lab is assembling a panel of technical experts to train and evaluate its models, and Mercor needs interviewers to screen the shortlist before anyone is placed.

Your part:

  • Run roughly 20-minute structured interviews with shortlisted engineers in GPU kernel development, security and vulnerability research, and ML compilers and accelerators
  • Score technical depth, communication and fit for AI evaluation work against a rubric Mercor provides
  • Confirm availability, work authorization and exclusivity, and flag red flags
  • Tier each person as advance, hold or pass, and write a short summary for the program team
  • Handle scheduling within weekday business hours

You are not expected to out-engineer the candidates. The rubric carries the technical bar; your value is running a disciplined, on-time conversation with senior people and writing an honest, evidence-based read afterwards.

Who fits

  • Prior recruiting, interviewing or technical vetting experience
  • Comfort assessing senior engineers, which is a different skill from screening junior candidates
  • Strong communication and structured judgment; warm but punctual
  • Weekday business-hours availability and a reliable 10 hours or so a week

A technical recruiter who has screened for infrastructure or security teams, or an engineering manager who has done a lot of hiring loops, is the natural profile.

What it pays

$50–60 per hour. Payment is weekly via Stripe or Wise, and H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Short, self-contained sessions with a provided rubric
  • Predictable load of about 10 hours a week
  • Good pay for recruiting-style work compared with typical agency screening rates
  • Active: one hire on the listing this month when we checked

Less good:

  • US-only
  • Tied to weekday business hours, unlike most asynchronous Mercor work
  • You screen AI trainers rather than doing AI training, so the experience is recruiting, not evaluation
  • The ad labels it a part-time position but its footer describes independent contracting; confirm the terms
  • Projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
