What you'll do

You do the job you already know, on mock files, so an AI lab can learn what good financial-crime work looks like. Each task is a self-contained case: an alert packet, a KYC file or a batch of screening hits. You produce the deliverable an analyst would hand in, and it is scored against a rubric. There is no access to live systems or real customer data, and every client-facing output stays a draft.

The case types the ad lists:

  • Transaction monitoring: adjudicate an alert from the packet, the KYC/CDD profile and the transaction history, record the disposition, and draft a SAR narrative where one is warranted
  • Onboarding review: check KYC packets for gaps and discrepancies between documents, then write the remediation list
  • Beneficial ownership: unwind layered structures and apply the 10% and 25% UBO thresholds
  • Screening: call sanctions and adverse-media hits as true match, false positive or escalate, with a short rationale for each
  • Other queues: supervisory alert triage, card fraud and disputes, and flagged communications checked against trade records

Who fits

  • 3+ years hands-on in AML, KYC/CDD, sanctions screening, fraud and disputes, or transaction surveillance at a bank, fintech, payments company or MSB
  • Working knowledge of FinCEN, FATF and OFAC frameworks and of SAR and CDD documentation standards
  • The ability to write a rationale that would hold up in a QA review

Nice to have: CAMS/ACAMS or CFE, enhanced due diligence and entity unwinding, SQL or transaction analytics, and fintech or payments background.

The assessment

Expect a timed exercise that mirrors the work: a mock alert packet to disposition with a SAR narrative, a KYC packet to review for discrepancies, and a batch of sanctions hits to adjudicate. If you have been out of the queue for a while, refresh your SAR narrative structure before you start; the timer rewards analysts who write fluently under pressure.

What it pays

$75–100 per hour, placed by experience. The ad describes roughly 15 hours a week, remote, and US-based. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise; Mercor cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • The work is the analyst job itself, so experienced analysts will find it familiar
  • No real customer data and no live systems
  • A very busy listing: Mercor showed 1,261 hires on it this month

Less good:

  • US-based only
  • Where you land in the $75–100 band depends on experience, and the ad gives no finer rule
  • About 15 hours a week, so this is side income, not a salary replacement
  • Independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early

About this listing

Posted by Mercor as a remote hourly contract with a United States location requirement, read on 24 September 2026. Pay, hours, the case types and the assessment format are the ad's own. For the securities side of compliance, Mercor runs a separate supervisory analyst listing at a higher rate. See Mercor.
