What you'll do

This Mercor project, run with an unnamed leading AI lab, wants Thai-speaking producers to grade the output of music AI models. The work has three parts:

  • Head-to-head comparisons: listen to two AI-generated songs and judge which is better on musicality, creativity, prompt adherence, vocal quality and production or mix quality
  • Labelling: tag songs by genre, structure, instrumentation, vocals and other musical characteristics
  • Lyrics and vocals review: check AI-generated lyrics and vocal performances against reference material for quality and accuracy

The Thai angle is what makes this variant distinct. Thai is tonal, so a sung melody that ignores the tones of the words can make lyrics sound wrong or even change their meaning; a producer who works in luk thung, mor lam or T-pop will hear that instantly, where a non-Thai evaluator would not. The ad lists broad familiarity with contemporary Thai genres and artists as a plus.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Thai, and able to follow detailed written instructions in English
  • 2+ years as a music producer, audio engineer or mixing engineer
  • Headphones or studio monitors good enough for critical listening

Nice to have: formal training in performance, theory or composition; credited or commercially released production, engineering or mixing work; and wide knowledge of the current Thai scene.

The application includes a Bilingual Competency Interview in Thai.

What it pays

$18 per hour, as published. The rate for the same brief varies sharply by language: the Russian version of this role pays $35–49 per hour. Mercor notes the project may switch from hourly to per-task pay, in which case your effective hourly rate is meant to stay the same.

Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded.

Commitment

Starts immediately and runs for up to six months. Hours are flexible: most contributors do around 20 a week, and there is no cap.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Uses real production skills rather than generic rating
  • No hours cap, and a defined runway of up to six months
  • An active listing: Mercor showed 5 hires this month when we read it

Less good:

  • $18 per hour is low for someone with two years of professional production experience
  • A possible shift to per-task pay could change how the work feels day to day, even if the hourly equivalent holds
  • You supply your own critical-listening gear
  • The AI lab is not named; contractor terms, project can end early
