What you'll do

The payer lens in a four-part pilot from a biotech and pharma research team building expert evaluation of how AI analyses commercial drugs and development programs. Your part is the gap between list price and what a drug actually earns, and whether it ever reaches patients on a good tier.

For each drug class in the pilot set you will:

  • Set and pressure-test gross-to-net and formulary-tier assumptions
  • Judge whether assumptions about coverage, rebating and tiering reflect how payers actually behave
  • Create and critique rubrics that capture this reasoning, so AI analysis can be graded against it

Market access is where generic analysis is most often naive. A model can recite list price and label, but deciding whether a third entrant in a crowded class gets preferred status, or what rebate that would take, depends on tacit knowledge of how PBMs and plans negotiate, and that knowledge is what the pilot is paying for.

Who fits

  • A US-based payer or market access professional
  • Hands-on with gross-to-net, rebates and formulary tiering by drug class
  • 5+ years in market access, pricing and reimbursement, or managed markets
  • Familiarity with biotech and pharma development programs

The requirements say US-based, and so does the engagement section, but the listing header also reads "US-based or deep US-market experience" and there is no formal location requirement on the ad. If you work outside the US on US market access, ask before assuming you are excluded.

What it pays

$175–200 per hour, the narrowest band of the four pilots and the highest floor. At 10–20 hours that is roughly $1,750–4,000. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, as an independent contractor.

Commitment

About 10–20 hours over one to two weeks, with recurring engagement offered to strong contributors.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Highest floor among the four sister pilots, and only a $25 spread
  • Short, bounded commitment that fits around a full-time role
  • Values payer-side expertise, which AI training work rarely asks for
  • A path to recurring work if the pilot goes well

Less good:

  • Pilot-sized total income unless it continues
  • Location wording is inconsistent between header and requirements
  • You cannot draw on your employer's contract or rebate data, which Mercor rules out
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported
  • The research team is not named
