Political Expert: Elections Forecasting & Political Risk

What you'll do

This is the national-level version of Mercor's political forecasting project. The client is building expert-authored forecasting data to evaluate and improve AI models on political and financial analysis, and the defining constraint is the evidence cutoff: each task fixes a date, and you reason as a strong analyst would have at that moment, with no hindsight.

You will:

• Write point-in-time political reports and forecasts from a stated cutoff
• Make and document directional calls on polling, win probabilities and market-implied odds
• Explain the causal chain from a political event to its expected political and market impact
• Review AI-generated analyses and grade them against your own standard

The "market impact" element puts tasks on the line between politics and finance, so the best candidates can say who is likely to win and what that means for rates, sectors or risk premiums.

Who fits

• A senior elections forecaster, campaign strategist, polling or statistical-methodology expert, or political-risk analyst
• A record of making live judgments on polling, win probabilities or odds, not retrospective commentary
• Strong polling literacy and causal event analysis
• Typically 8+ years of direct experience, or unusually strong evidence of equivalent performance

Backgrounds Mercor looks at first: top national polling and forecasting organizations, major decision desks, senior analytics teams from presidential, Senate or governor races, and political-risk desks at leading banks, funds or firms such as Eurasia Group and EIU. Brand names help at first pass, but the work sample decides.

Not a fit, per the ad: communications, journalism or academic profiles without demonstrated forecasting, polling or probabilistic judgment.

Unlike its sister listing, this one publishes no residence restriction, and it names global political-risk firms among the preferred backgrounds. If your expertise is one state's races rather than the national picture, the Local Political Expert listing (US or Canada residents, same pay) is the closer fit.

What it pays

$150–250 per hour, Mercor's published band. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise. No weekly hours are stated.

Point-in-time discipline

Every task is graded on reasoning from the cutoff without hindsight, data leakage, confidential information or material non-public information. Anything you know from a current employer's internal models stays out.
