Skills
  • quality assurance
  • quality control
  • content review
  • rubric-based evaluation
  • written communication
  • attention to detail
  • process improvement

What you'll do

You review work product against defined quality standards, rubrics and guidelines, find the errors, inconsistencies and gaps, and document them clearly. Then you write structured, actionable feedback for the contributors and stakeholders whose work you just marked.

Two parts of the brief lift this above straight review. You track quality metrics and surface the recurring issues, so patterns across many submissions are part of the output rather than one-off corrections. And you help refine the quality processes, checklists and evaluation criteria themselves, which means the standard you apply today is partly one you shaped.

The ad does not spell out the position this puts you in. On platforms like this, a quality analyst sits a layer above the contributors, checking their completed work against the bar rather than producing labelled data. That is a different job from annotation, it usually suits people who have done the underlying work before, and the feedback you write lands with real people.

Everything runs asynchronously across a distributed team in multiple time zones.

What you need

  • Proven experience in quality assurance, quality control or a similar review-focused role
  • Strong attention to detail, and an eye for the errors other people miss
  • Excellent written communication, with feedback that is clear and constructive
  • Comfort with ambiguity and standards that change under you in a fast-moving environment
  • A reliable internet connection and a quiet, focused workspace

Nice to have, per the ad: familiarity with data annotation, content review or evaluation workflows; experience on distributed or remote teams; and a background in a domain relevant to the work, named as technical, editorial or analytical.

No degree is mentioned anywhere, unlike Mercor's own Generalist Expert listing, where a bachelor's is a hard minimum. No minimum years of experience is stated either.

One eligibility limit the ad does state plainly: Mercor cannot support H-1B or STEM OPT candidates on this role. No country restriction is published beyond that.

What it pays

$20–50 per hour, Mercor's own published figure rather than an estimate of ours.

The floor is low for this board and the ceiling is two and a half times it, with nothing published about what decides where you land. Domain background and prior annotation or evaluation experience are the plausible levers, but the ad does not say so, so plan around $20 until you have seen your own offer.

The payment terms are unusually concrete for a listing at this level: weekly payments via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered. Weekly cycles matter more than they sound when the engagement is hourly and the task supply is variable.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No degree requirement and no stated minimum years, so QA experience alone is the qualification
  • Weekly payment on Stripe or Wise, published in the ad rather than discovered later
  • Reviewing rather than producing, which is the more durable half of this kind of work
  • You help shape the checklists and criteria, not just apply them
  • Genuinely asynchronous and fully remote, on your own schedule
  • No country restriction is published beyond the visa limitation

Less good:

  • $20 is a low floor and the band is 2.5x wide with no published basis for placement
  • Mercor's own Generalist Expert listing pays $50–70/hour for comparable review work, gated on a degree and US or Canada residency; if you clear that gate, compare the two before applying here
  • The ad states projects can be extended, shortened or concluded early depending on need and performance, so neither hours nor duration are guaranteed
  • No indication of weekly hours, so treat this as variable income until your own task supply is visible
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to set aside
  • The projects and the end client are not described at all, only "our work"

About this listing

Posted by Mercor as an hourly remote contract, confirmed open on 12 September 2026. The $20–50 band, the weekly Stripe or Wise payment terms, the visa limitation and every requirement above are the ad's own published text.

Mercor also states that the work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client or institution. Read that as a constraint on you as much as a reassurance: material from your current job is out of scope, so do not bring it.

No closing date, weekly hours or country list is published, and no client is named. Payment and onboarding run at the platform level. See Mercor.
