What you'll do

The project is about emergency response communications, and your job is to make an AI's version of dispatch sound and decide like the real thing. You take in emergency requests across radio, phone and chat, triage them against standardised protocols and checklists, prioritise the ones competing for the same resources, and route instructions to responders, documenting every inbound message and dispatch decision as you go.

The ad frames this in the present tense, as if live, but the purpose is training data: you are producing the decision trails and communications an AI will learn from, and you help define what good data and effective protocol use look like. There are also knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at making the simulations more realistic, which is where a dispatcher's sense of how calls actually go wrong earns its keep.

Expect the work to reward the same things a console does: calm under simultaneous inputs, protocol discipline, and short, unambiguous wording.

Who fits

All listed as preferred:

  • Ambulance or emergency dispatch experience, including incident triage and prioritisation
  • Composure and multitasking in time-critical situations
  • Handling radio, phone and chat channels at once
  • Working from standardised decision protocols and checklists
  • Accurate, complete documentation of every interaction
  • Clear, professional writing and speech

Dispatcher or coordinator experience is "highly valued", and the ad says formal certification is not required for this engagement. No years of experience or country requirement is stated.

What it pays

$30–55/hour, micro1's published band. No compensation structure, weekly hours or project length is stated, so it is unclear whether this is paid per hour worked or per task. Given that the work is scenario-based, ask how a "shift" or task is defined and paid.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 50 openings, flagged as high demand
  • No certification needed, which opens it to experienced dispatchers whose credentials lapsed or were employer-specific
  • Remote, with no country list
  • Real domain judgment is the input, not generic annotation

Less good:

  • A modest band for specialist experience, comparable to many dispatch wages
  • Nothing on hours, duration, screening or how the band is applied
  • Simulated emergencies can still be emotionally heavy for people who have left the console for that reason
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
