What you'll do

This is listening work. You hear short Bengali clips, some from human speakers and some produced by a model, and judge how native they sound: pronunciation, intonation, and whether the phrasing is something a Bengali speaker would actually say. Each judgement comes with a written justification in English, so the output is a rating plus the reasoning that makes it reproducible.

Bengali is a large language with a relatively thin supply of high-quality speech data, and a native ear is precisely what a speech model cannot supply for itself. Expect the difficult cases to be clips that are grammatically fine but sound off: a stress pattern from a different region, a formal register in a casual sentence, a vowel that a Kolkata listener and a Dhaka listener would hear differently. The ad does not say which variety of Bengali the project targets, so that is worth asking.

You also flag ambiguities to project coordinators and feed observations back into how the model is improved.

Who fits

  • Native-level Bengali, spoken and written
  • English at B2 or above, because every assessment is written in English
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to put fine sound differences into words
  • Clear written and verbal communication

Preferred rather than required: a background in voice work, linguistics, phonetics, or music and audio engineering; experience with audio analysis, transcription or linguistic assessment; familiarity with media, communications or teaching. No prior AI experience is needed, and no minimum years are stated.

What it pays

$30–65/hour, micro1's published band. Nothing in the ad explains what decides where you land in it, and the top is more than double the floor, so plan around $30 until an offer says otherwise. No weekly hours, project length or payment schedule are published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Open to native speakers without a linguistics degree or AI background
  • 100 openings and flagged as high demand, so capacity should not be the bottleneck
  • The work is concrete and easy to understand before you start
  • Remote, with no country restriction on the listing

Less good:

  • A wide band with no published basis for placement
  • Rating clip after clip for nativeness is repetitive, and consistency is the whole job
  • The target variety of Bengali is not specified
  • No hours, duration or start date stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 24 September 2026, and posted about a month earlier. The $30–65/hour band, the 100 openings and the qualifications above are micro1's published text. micro1 runs the same template for other languages, including Hebrew and Italian at the same band, and Indonesian at a narrower, higher band. The customer is not named. See micro1.
