What you'll do
You perform simulated contract negotiations and redlining exercises, then review how an AI handles the same scenarios and give the expert feedback that sharpens it, specifically on how the model identifies risk and reads contract language.
The part with the longest reach is framework building: creating objective evaluation criteria and grading rubrics so AI performance on contract tasks is measured consistently rather than by impression. You also work with product and research teams to refine the data and guidelines behind the contract review work, so this sits closer to the project than a pure annotation seat would.
Part-time by design, fully remote, and task-based.
What you need
- At least three years of in-house experience focused on technology transactions, specifically negotiating MSAs, NDAs and DPAs
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, with close attention to detail
- Strong analytical ability, and the knack of turning legal expertise into feedback an AI team can act on
- A demonstrated interest in the intersection of law and technology
- Experience with cross-disciplinary teams in fast-paced environments
Note what is not here: no bar-admission jurisdiction, no firm-tier requirement, no law school ranking. What counts is what you have actually negotiated.
Nice to have
- Prior exposure to AI, legal tech, or training initiatives
- Experience at a corporate law firm in M&A or in fund formation for private equity firms
What it pays
$100–130/hour. What makes this ad unusual is that it explains the mechanism:
Compensation is task-based, meaning experts are paid per completed task that meets the project specifications. The average handling time (AHT) is approximately 3.5 hours per task, and the effective hourly rate will depend on the number of tasks completed and successfully signed off.
Three things follow.
A task is a substantial piece of work. Three and a half hours on average, not a fifteen-minute annotation. You are being paid in units of half a working day.
"Successfully signed off" is the operative phrase. Work that is not accepted is not paid. The advertised band is what you earn on accepted output, and nothing covers the time spent on output that comes back rejected.
The hourly figure is a target, not a floor. If the band is meant to be reached at the average handling time, a signed-off task works out at roughly $350–455. That is our arithmetic on the two published numbers, not a rate stated in the ad, so confirm it before planning around it. Beat the 3.5-hour average and you clear the band; take longer, or get sent back for revisions, and your effective rate falls accordingly.
Worth knowing
Good:
- The pay mechanism is spelled out, including the average handling time, which makes the terms judgeable
- No bar jurisdiction, no firm tier, no law school ranking: three years of the right in-house work is the bar
- $100–130/hour is strong for part-time contract work you fit around an existing role
- 100 openings, so this is a volume hire rather than a shortlist
- Rubric and framework design outlasts any single labelling task
- Explicitly part-time by design
Less good:
- Task-based pay means unaccepted work is unpaid, and no sign-off rate or revision policy is published
- A 3.5-hour average handling time is an average. Your first tasks will take longer, at your own cost
- No per-task fee is stated, so the hourly band is a projection rather than a rate you can hold anyone to
- Narrow specialism: MSAs, NDAs and DPAs specifically. General corporate counsel without tech-transaction depth are not the target
- No screening process, start date, or project duration is stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- Neither the customer nor the product is named, and the work explicitly builds tools for contract review, worth weighing if you have a view on where that leads for junior legal roles
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 7 September 2026. The $100–130/hour band, the three-year requirement, and the compensation paragraph quoted above are its published text for this role.
The $350–455 per-task figure is our arithmetic on that band and the stated 3.5-hour average; no per-task fee or sign-off rate is published, and we have not substituted estimates for either. No closing date and no country restriction are stated on this ad; platform-wide eligibility and screening are on the micro1 page.
