What you'll do
This is data quality review for an AI training project. You check datasets and detailed task outputs for accuracy, completeness and whether they followed the instructions they were given, and you apply structured rubrics the same way across large volumes of records. Anything inconsistent, wrong or off-guideline gets flagged.
When the guidelines do not cover a case you are expected to make a defensible call and write down why, so judgment under ambiguity is part of the job rather than a reason to stop. Recurring problems are escalated as patterns instead of being fixed one by one, so noticing that the same error keeps appearing counts for more than correcting each instance. You also give written and verbal feedback that pinpoints issues and suggests how to resolve them. The ad is candid that much of the work is high-volume and repetitive.
Who fits
- 3–5+ years in data review, data quality, QA or an analytical role
- Experience validating or critiquing data or deliverables against explicit criteria
- Precise use of detailed written instructions and complex rubrics
- Comfort making justified decisions when guidelines are incomplete
- Sharp error spotting across repetitive, high-volume work
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Basic spreadsheet fluency (sorting, filtering, simple formulas); SQL or hands-on querying is a plus
- Data annotation, labelling or rubric-based evaluation experience is an advantage
The bar is about care and consistency more than technical depth: spreadsheets are the stated baseline and SQL is optional. You must be based in the US.
What it pays
$30–60/hour, micro1's published figure. No weekly hours, project length or pay structure are published, and the ad does not say what decides placement in the band.
How it differs from micro1's other Data Analyst listings
micro1 runs two other data analyst roles. The Data Analyst listing at $50–60/hour is a technical Snowflake and SQL job, checking AI assistants' analytics against the warehouse and administering roles and test data. The Data Analyst (Business Data and PII Review) listing at $31–60/hour centres on privacy rules for business datasets. This one is general rubric-based data review with a lower technical bar, and it is the only one of the three restricted to US residents.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A lower technical bar than micro1's Snowflake data analyst role; spreadsheets are enough
- QA, data quality and annotation backgrounds all count
- 30 openings, marked high demand
- Real room for judgment in ambiguous cases
Less good:
- US residents only
- A floor of $30 for a role asking 3–5+ years of experience
- The ad itself warns of high-volume, repetitive review
- No project duration or weekly hours stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
