What you'll do
Classic annotation work on audio and video. You label clips according to a detailed, project-specific guideline, then go back over existing annotations to make sure they agree with each other and with the rules.
The job is as much about judgement as clicking. You flag ambiguous samples and errors in the source data, record why you labelled something the way you did so the decision can be audited later, and raise questions with the project leads when the guideline does not cover a case. There are deadlines and accuracy targets, and you are asked to feed back on the workflow itself.
Who fits
- Some experience with data annotation, ideally with audio or video
- Strong attention to detail and a sense for quality control
- Good written and spoken English
- Comfort with guidelines that change as a project evolves
- Organised enough to document your reasoning, not just your labels
Familiarity with labelling tools helps but is not required, and micro1 says no prior AI experience is needed.
What it pays
$6–8/hour, micro1's published figure. That is among the lowest bands on micro1's board and well below its expert roles, so this is realistically a fit for people in lower-cost regions or looking for flexible entry-level work rather than a main income in the US or Western Europe.
No pay structure, weekly hours or minimum commitment are stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Genuinely entry-level: no degree, no years of experience, no AI background asked for
- 20 openings
- Documenting your annotation decisions builds a habit that better-paid review and QA roles look for
Less good:
- $6–8/hour is very low for skilled review work
- Audio and video annotation is repetitive and tiring over long sessions
- No hours, duration or start date published
- The kind of audio and video content is not described
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
