What you'll do
micro1 is recruiting for a leading AI lab (not named) and the brief is short: evaluate model outputs on data science, statistics, machine learning and quantitative problems; create expert prompts, datasets and reference solutions; and catch the flawed methodology, statistical errors and weak quantitative reasoning that models still produce. Everything feeds structured feedback aimed at improving capability.
In practice the skill that counts is the one you use in code review or experiment review: spotting a leaky validation split, a p-value read backwards, a confounded A/B comparison, or a model that answers a different question from the one asked. Reference solutions must be right, not merely plausible.
Who fits
- At least one year at a top company in tech, finance or research, with some of that within the past seven years
- Clear written explanation of technical and statistical concepts
- Working depth in Python, pandas, statistics, ML, experimentation and data modelling (the listed skills)
- Based in an English-speaking country (listed as a preferred qualification, not a hard requirement)
No degree requirement or minimum total years are stated; the pedigree test is the employer, not the credential.
What it pays
$245–280/hour, micro1's published band. It is one of the highest bands on micro1's board and matches its Senior Software Engineer, Management Consultant and Senior Journalist listings, which suggests one premium rate card for the same lab across professions. No pay structure, hours or duration are stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Exceptional rate for evaluation work, with a tight band
- 100 openings, flagged high demand
- Only one year at a top firm is needed, so mid-career people qualify
- Direct work for a frontier lab
Less good:
- "Top company" is undefined, and screening will likely be strict
- The English-speaking-country preference may filter out otherwise strong applicants elsewhere
- No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal about a month before we read it on 24 September 2026. The band, openings count and qualifications come from that listing. No hard country restriction is stated; the English-speaking-country line is a preference. Payment schedule and visa terms are not published on the ad. See micro1.
