What you'll do
The core task is verification against the chart. You review medical records, including raw FHIR data and clinical notes, and check whether clinical statements and claims are actually supported by the record. That covers the parts of inpatient documentation you write every day: HPI, PMH, assessments and plans.
You identify what is missing, wrong or inconsistent, apply the project's guidelines the same way every time, and give feedback that improves the AI models and the data behind them. The ad describes clear guidelines and consistent standards more than open-ended judgement, so this reads closer to structured chart review than to adjudicating hard cases. (micro1 runs a separate Senior Hospitalist Clinical Reviewer listing for the latter.)
Comfort with raw FHIR resources is worth checking honestly before you apply. Reading a note in the EHR is not the same as reading the underlying JSON-style records, and the ad lists FHIR first among its skills.
Who fits
- MD or DO, board certified in internal medicine, paediatrics or hospital medicine
- Current or recent inpatient or hospitalist work, within the last two years
- A strong grasp of inpatient documentation and hospital workflows
- Comfort reviewing clinical notes and raw medical record data
- Close attention to detail and consistent application of guidelines
Chart review, clinical documentation improvement, utilisation review or coding and QA experience is a plus, as is work across several inpatient services. The ad does not include micro1's usual "no prior AI experience required" line, but nothing in it asks for AI experience either.
What it pays
$70–100/hour, micro1's published figure. It shares the band and the thirty openings with the Senior Hospitalist Clinical Reviewer listing, which asks for ten years of attending experience; this one asks only for recent practice, so it is the easier entry point at the same pay. No compensation structure, weekly hours or duration is stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Same pay as the senior sibling with a much lower experience bar
- Thirty openings, flagged high demand
- Paediatric hospitalists qualify alongside internists
- Structured work with clear guidelines
Less good:
- $70–100 is well below clinical hourly rates for hospitalists
- The two-year recency rule excludes physicians who have left inpatient work
- Raw FHIR review can be tedious
- No hours, duration or pay structure published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
