What you'll do

This is comparative grading of AI writing. Each task gives you several model responses to the same writing prompt. You judge them side by side on clarity, tone, helpfulness and how faithfully each followed the instructions, assign a quality score to each, and write a concise rationale for your call.

The ad singles out one failure mode that a journalist's instincts are suited to: writing that reads persuasively but is inaccurate, unsupported or off-brief. Models are fluent, so the weak answer is often the confident one. Beyond that, you are checking for factual errors, logical gaps and internal contradictions, the same things a copy desk catches before a piece runs.

Work is asynchronous and independent, recorded in project review tools, with project managers and reviewers keeping scores consistent across the pool.

Who fits

  • A professional background as a journalist, reporter, editor, copy editor, sub-editor, fact-checker, ghostwriter or published author
  • Native or near-native written English, with a university degree completed in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand
  • Experience editing or fact-checking other people's work against a style guide or editorial standard
  • Sound judgment on accuracy, clarity and audience fit
  • Comfort working remotely and alone to a deadline
  • Annotation or AI evaluation experience is a plus, not a requirement

Note that the degree condition is about where you studied, not where you live; the ad sets no residence requirement.

What it pays

$90–140/hour, micro1's published band, with no compensation structure stated, so it is not clear whether this is time-based or a per-task equivalent. micro1's Technical Writer / Editor listing carries the same $90–140 band.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A strong rate for evaluation work, open to a wide range of editorial backgrounds (fact-checkers and ghostwriters count)
  • No masthead list and no years-of-experience floor stated
  • Rewards the editorial skill of spotting a confident error
  • Asynchronous, fully remote

Less good:

  • Ten openings for a broad pool of qualified writers and editors
  • The degree-location condition shuts out many strong English-language editors educated elsewhere
  • Scoring and justifying many near-identical responses gets repetitive
  • No pay structure, hours or project length published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
