What you'll do

This is close reading with a scoring sheet. You take written content and AI-generated responses, compare each one against detailed guidelines and defined criteria, and decide how well it did: is it accurate, clear, coherent and complete, and did it actually follow the instructions it was given?

The ad is specific about the kind of error it wants caught: subtle problems in grammar, usage, context and meaning. That means the dangling modifier that changes who did what, the tense slip that breaks a timeline, the word that is grammatical but wrong for the register. You then write short, actionable feedback and log what you found in the project's own evaluation tools and reporting formats.

The ad is equally clear about what the job is not. It wants accuracy and objective assessment "rather than creativity", so this suits an editor's or a copy-checker's temperament more than a writer's. You explain, briefly, why a response falls short; rewriting it into something better is not part of the task.

The engagement starts as a four-week sprint, with extension depending on performance and project needs.

Who fits

  • Native proficiency in U.S. English, stated as a hard requirement for this engagement
  • An advanced academic background, or extensive professional experience, in linguistics, language analysis, writing, editing or a related field
  • The ability to give nuanced linguistic assessments in writing, and to keep them concise
  • A strong eye for small inconsistencies, and the patience to apply the same criteria across a high volume of similar items
  • Immediate availability for at least 20 hours per week

No AI experience is needed; micro1 says the domain expertise is what matters. No degree level or number of years is fixed, so a working copy editor and a linguistics graduate student can both make the case.

What it pays

$40–50/hour, micro1's published band. It is a narrow spread by micro1's standards, so the floor is a realistic planning figure. At the 20-hour weekly minimum over the four-week sprint, that is 80 hours, or $3,200–4,000 before any extension; that is our arithmetic on the published figures, not a number micro1 states.

The ad does not say how placement within the band is decided, and it publishes no payment schedule.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A narrow, predictable band with a $40 floor
  • Fifty openings and a "High demand" tag, so the project is actively hiring
  • Editors, proofreaders and linguists all qualify; no AI background needed
  • The work is defined and objective, which makes quality easier to demonstrate

Less good:

  • Only four weeks are guaranteed; everything after that depends on performance and project needs
  • The 20-hour weekly minimum and "immediate availability" rule out people who can only give evenings here and there
  • High-volume evaluation against fixed criteria is repetitive by design
  • The location line reads "Remote (US and Western Europe)", which is a regional preference rather than a country list; check eligibility for your country before investing time
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
  • The customer is not named
