What you'll do
The core loop is authoring and checking mathematics. You write advanced problems with full solutions and proofs, review other people's, analyse and give feedback on mathematical challenges for clarity and correctness, and refine content destined for AI training datasets. The ad names calculus alongside "other higher mathematics", so expect breadth rather than one specialism.
Writing a problem for a model is a different skill from writing one for students. The statement has to admit exactly one defensible answer, and the proof has to be complete enough that a grader can check a model's attempt step by step. People who have set exams or competition problems usually adapt quickly. The ad also mentions verbal communication, so there may be calls or a spoken interview.
Who fits
- A BSc, MSc or PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics or a close field
- Experience producing research papers, proofs or technical analyses
- Solid command of calculus, proof writing and advanced topics
- Strong problem-solving and the ability to explain complex ideas simply
- Research methodology and mathematical content development
- International or collaborative research experience is a plus
What it pays
$80–90/hour, micro1's published band, one of the narrowest on its board. The floor is effectively the rate, which makes it easy to plan around. No pay structure, weekly hours or duration are stated.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A bachelor's degree qualifies on paper
- Very tight band, so little uncertainty on rate
- 100 openings, flagged high demand
- The ad invites contributors from anywhere in the world
Less good:
- The ceiling is modest for PhD-level proof writing
- No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
- The customer is not named
