What you'll do
You are given multi-part mechanical assemblies as native FreeCAD files and asked to understand them well enough to test someone else on them. For each assembly you write several technical questions with exact answers, covering what the mechanism does, why it was designed the way it was, and dimensional details. Each question has to be objective and non-guessable, and formatted so there is only one defensible answer under real engineering conventions.
Compared with its sibling listing, this one leans a little more on design intent: the ad asks you to grasp component relationships and why the assembly is built as it is, not only its geometry. It also stresses delivery within agreed parameters and prompt communication with coordinators, so expect a managed pipeline rather than open-ended exploration.
Who fits
- A background in mechanical engineering, aerospace or industrial design, with solid applied CAD
- Experience reading complex assemblies and engineering drawings
- FreeCAD helps, but SolidWorks, CATIA or Autodesk Inventor experience is named as valuable
- A record of writing precise technical documentation or assessment material
- Analytical rigour and strong written and spoken communication
- Independence and good time management in a remote team
No degree, years of experience or location requirement is stated.
What it pays
$40–80/hour, micro1's published band, identical to the FreeCAD Expert listing. The ad does not say what places you within it, how many hours are available or whether pay is per Q&A set.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Fifty openings, the larger of the two listings on this project
- Commercial CAD users are welcomed explicitly
- Asynchronous, question-writing work that rewards engineering judgment
Less good:
- Native FreeCAD files mean learning its interface if you have not used it, probably on your own time
- Non-guessable questions are hard to write; expect revisions
- No hours, duration or pay mechanism published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits
About this listing
Read on micro1's jobs portal on 24 September 2026, posted 14 days earlier with a "High demand" badge. The band, scope and qualifications are micro1's text; the comparison with its sibling is ours. The near-identical FreeCAD Expert listing runs on the same band with 30 openings and puts slightly more weight on FreeCAD itself; apply to whichever matches your background, not both by default.
