What you'll do

You troubleshoot on paper and explain your reasoning. Given electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams and other technical documentation, you work out how the equipment should function, where a fault could sit and how you would prove it.

The equipment list is wide on purpose: industrial machinery, HVAC, elevators, heavy equipment, marine, rail, utility and telecom systems. PLC logic and industrial controls come up for root cause work. You also flag code requirements where they apply (NFPA 70 and 79, ASME A17.1 for elevators, OSHA) and add practical commentary on maintenance, service and repair strategy.

The main output is written troubleshooting reports: approach, findings and corrective action, written clearly enough to be used as AI training material.

Who fits

  • Eight or more years of hands-on troubleshooting on industrial, HVAC, elevator, hydraulic, heavy vehicle, marine, rail, utility or telecom equipment
  • Advanced reading of wiring diagrams, schematics and hydraulic or pneumatic layouts
  • PLC programming, industrial controls and fault-finding experience
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70/79, ASME A17.1 and OSHA
  • The ability to turn a diagnosis into clear written documentation

Past experience writing service reports or instructions helps. No AI experience is required.

What it pays

$60–110/hour, micro1's published band. No further pay detail (hourly versus per task, hours per week, project length) is given.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • One of the few AI training roles that fits a service tech rather than a degree holder; no degree is mentioned
  • 20 openings, flagged as high demand
  • Any of eight equipment families qualifies, so you do not need to match a single niche
  • Location is simply remote, with no stated US preference, unlike most of micro1's current industrial roles

Less good:

  • The code references are all US (NFPA, ASME, OSHA), which favours US-trained techs
  • Desk-based diagnosis without hands on the machine is a different skill; some techs find it frustrating
  • Pay mechanics, hours and duration not stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
